Kitui DG Encourages Youths to Join Technical Institutions and Learn Skills

18th January 2025

Kitui County Deputy Governor, HE Wambua Kanani, has urged young people who recently completed their secondary education to enroll in Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) institutions and Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) to acquire practical skills for self-employment.

Speaking during a condolence visit to the family of the late Milcah Warigia Mutemi in Kivou Village, Kivou Ward, Mwingi Central Sub County, HE Kanani emphasized the importance of technical skills in the current job market.

“We are in an era where skilled labor provides a more reliable source of income. Parents, let us encourage our children to join our VTCs. Our Governor, HE Dr. Julius Malombe, EGH, has committed to paying exam fees to ensure that graduates can obtain their certificates,” said Kanani.

The Deputy Governor took a moment to celebrate the life of the late Milcah Warigia Mutemi, describing her as a matriarch filled with love and resilience. Born and raised in Nyahururu, Central Kenya, Milcah overcame numerous challenges to establish a strong family legacy in Mwingi Central.

The event was attended by other county leaders, including Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele, CECM for Agriculture, Chief Officer Kitonga Salee, and Chief Officer Engineer Munyambu, among others.

HE Kanani’s call to action aligns with Kitui County’s broader strategy to empower the youth through technical education, aiming to reduce unemployment and promote self-reliance among the county’s residents.
