Anzauni National Clan Patron Kyalo Muli Missing as Kalonzo Musyoka Meets Ukambani Elders

The absence of Hon. Augustus Kyalo Muli, the patron of the Anzauni National Clan, was conspicuous during a high-profile meeting between Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and the Akamba Clans Governing Council of Elders. The meeting, held at Kalonzo’s Yatta farm, brought together key figures from Ukambani’s clan leadership, including Chairman Bonface Kilonzo, Treasurer Brigadier Nganda, and Secretary General Davis Maeke.Kalonzo later shared details of the engagement on his social media, highlighting the role of clans in fostering unity and advancing the region’s governance agenda. However, the absence of the Anzauni clan—one of the most influential in Ukambani—raised questions. Hon. Kyalo Muli, who has been instrumental in organizing and securing national recognition for the Anzauni, was notably missing from the talks.Efforts to reach him for clarification on why he was not invited or did not attend the meeting were unsuccessful. The Anzauni clan, numbering close to 400,000 with a strong presence in Mwingi and Kitui, has historically played a vital role in the region’s leadership. The clan has produced some of the country’s earliest leaders and continues to push for greater inclusion of the Akamba community in national development under the guidance of Patron Kyalo Muli and Chairman Peter Mulili.Notably, Kalonzo Musyoka’s wife hails from the Anzauni clan, making their absence even more significant. The omission—or exclusion—of the clan leadership from such a strategic gathering has fueled speculation of possible shifting political dynamics in Ukambani. As regional leaders work to consolidate clan leadership structures, the reasons behind Muli’s absence remain unclear. Whether it was a mere oversight or a sign of underlying political realignments is yet to be seen.
