Augustus Kyalo Muli Calls for Political Realignment in Ukambani, Launches National Liberal Party (NLP)

Political party leader Dr Augustus Kyalo Muli has issued a strong call for change in Ukambani politics, urging the Akamba community to break away from the long-standing cycle of opposition and instead demand a greater share in national governance. Speaking as the Party Leader of the newly formed National Liberal Party (NLP), Muli emphasized the need for a fresh political approach that prioritizes the development and empowerment of the Kamba people.

Muli decried the historical political marginalization of the Akamba, despite being Kenya’s fifth-largest ethnic group with over four million people. Comparing the region’s fortunes with those of the Luo community, he pointed out that while both communities have traditionally supported the opposition, the Luo leadership has consistently negotiated government benefits for their people.

“In the last 15 years, we have been pushed to vote for ‘our own,’ yet that leadership has forsaken us. We remain in opposition, while our leaders enjoy government privileges,” Muli said.

The NLP leader criticized past Ukambani leadership for keeping the region politically sidelined while failing to secure development opportunities, senior government appointments, and economic investments. He called for a new political direction that directly engages the government to ensure the Akamba receive their rightful share.

“It’s time we said no as a community. It’s time we demanded what rightly belongs to us,” Muli declared.

The NLP Agenda: A New Vision for Ukambani

Muli outlined the National Liberal Party’s (NLP) core mission as:
✔️ Advocating for equal government representation for the Akamba in Cabinet, Principal Secretary positions, and other senior roles.
✔️ Ensuring equitable development funding for the region.
✔️ Unlocking the potential of Ukambani’s rivers and natural resources to benefit the local economy.
✔️ Ending the cycle of political manipulation that has kept the region in poverty.

He called upon the people of Ukambani to rally behind the NLP, promising that the party would be a vehicle for true economic and political liberation.

“This is what the National Liberal Party (NLP) stands for. It’s time for change in Ukambani. It’s time for Maendeleo kwa Wote,” Muli concluded.

The formation of the NLP signals a potential shift in Ukambani politics, with Muli positioning himself as a new force challenging the established political order. As Kenya gears up for the next elections, all eyes will be on how the NLP reshapes the region’s political landscape.
