Kitui Executive for Agriculture and Livestock Dr. Stephen Mbaya today hosted Madam Kyoko Nishimura, the Chief of Party for the Initiative for Food and Nutrition Security in Africa (IFNA), at Kitui Agricultural Training Centre (KATC) during a courtesy call.
Madam Nishimura, who arrived from South Africa, is in the country to attend the IFNA project close-out meeting scheduled for tomorrow.
She was accompanied by Mr. Fumiaki Murakami, the IFNA team leader, with both playing key roles in coordinating the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)-funded projects in the region.
The IFNA team is overseeing the implementation of a project titled “Improving Nutrition through Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture Programming in Kitui County,” under the IFNA Pilot Project II.
The initiative is being implemented in Ithumula, Ikanga Kyatune Ward, in Kitui South Sub-County.
The project, which began in March 2024 and is set to conclude on 20th April 2025, has supported 130 beneficiaries in kitchen gardening and rabbit rearing, and 50 beneficiaries in pasture production. Its core objective is to enhance household nutrition and food security through sustainable agricultural practices.
Following the courtesy call, the delegation proceeded to Ikanga ward to engage with project beneficiaries on the ground.
During the visit, they assessed the impact of the project by visiting individual households and community groups involved in the interventions. Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the support received, noting significant improvements in food diversity and income generation.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the IFNA team to collect feedback and share insights ahead of the close-out meeting.
