On Thursday, 2nd May, 2024 – The County Assembly Committee on Trade, Industry, ICT and Cooperatives led by the Chairperson Hon. Daniel Kimanzi Ngoima (Township), has commenced her inspection exercise to assess the current status of County Corporations.

The Committee first stop was at Kitui County Textile Company (KICOTEC) in Township ward where they were received by the Corporations Supply Chain Manager Madam Tabitha Mwania.

During the tour of the facility, members of the committee established that KICOTEC has state-of-the art equipment which if well utilized, can spur the economic growth of the county through generating own source revenue. The committee further found out that the corporation has been receiving orders from various government entities worthy of millions of shillings.

While briefing the Committee on the operations and status of the corporation, the Chief Executive Officer Mr .Ben Jackson, revealed that KICOTEC is now breaking even and that the corporation has been able to pay workers on time contrary to the information being peddled in some quarters of the media.

The CEO further assured the committee that in the near future, the corporation will be able to operate on its own without depending on the support from the County Government. ”As of today, we have orders worthy of three hundred millions and this is a big boost to us’’, added Mr. Jackson.

Later, the Hon. Ngoima led Committee, visited Mutomo KICOTEC and established that the corporation is not operational despite the center having adequate equipment. ‘‘This a replica of what we have just seen in Kitui and something needs to be done to see this center up and running”, remarked Hon. Ngoima.
