Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki today led a high-powered delegation to Kitui Central Constituency where he launched a raft of economic empowerment initiatives targeting women, youth, and small-scale traders under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
Addressing hundreds of residents gathered at Ithookwe Grounds, the Deputy President emphasized the government’s commitment to national unity and economic development, warning against divisive politics based on ethnicity, region, or religion.
“Merchants of ethnic, regional and religious disharmony are a serious threat to the unity, indivisibility, security and stability of our country and must be rejected by all citizens of goodwill,” Kindiki said.
He reaffirmed the Kenya Kwanza administration’s dedication to the 2022 campaign pledges, particularly focusing on uplifting small businesses and informal sector players such as Mama Mboga, hawkers, boda boda riders, and Jua Kali artisans.
Among the key projects launched was the Kitui Central Constituency Economic Empowerment Programme, which includes funding for women, youth groups, Jua Kali associations, and boda boda SACCOs. The Deputy President also highlighted progress on the construction of 400 modern markets and electricity connectivity under BETA.
“In Kitui County alone, 16,000 households are being connected to the national power grid at a cost of KSh 2 billion. Of these, 2,000 households are in Kitui Central Constituency at a cost of KSh 200 million,” he revealed.
The Deputy President was accompanied by a delegation of senior government officials and legislators including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Majority Leaders Kimani Ichung’wah (National Assembly) and Aaron Cheruiyot (Senate), as well as MPs Nimrod Mbai (Kitui East), Vincent Musyoka (Mwala), Mwengi Mutuse (Kibwezi West), Caleb Mule (Machakos Town), George Murugara (Tharaka), Eli Letipila (Samburu North), and Martin Wanyonyi Pepela (Webuye East).
Also present were Principal Secretary for Livestock Development Jonathan Mueke, Kitui County Assembly Speaker Kelvin Katisya, MCAs, and grassroots leaders.
The Deputy President assured residents that the government remains focused on completing stalled road projects, expanding electricity access, and creating dignified economic opportunities across the country.
