Former Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has sparked political speculation after a public show of camaraderie with Mavoko MP Patrick Makau, suggesting he may throw his weight behind Makau’s possible 2027 gubernatorial bid.
In a social media post following the Senate Committee on Labour and Social Welfare session held at County Hall, Dr. Mutua shared details of his engagement with Hon. Makau, who also serves as a Commissioner in the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).
“On the sidelines of the Senate Committee on Labour and Social Welfare session held at County Hall, I had a cordial exchange with Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) Commissioner and Mavoko MP, Hon. Patrick Makau aka Mutemba. We shared ideas on strengthening service delivery, promoting youth employment, and enhancing collaboration for the benefit of our people,” Dr. Mutua wrote.
The post ended with the phrase “Mbele iko sawa,” a Swahili expression loosely translating to “the future is bright,” which many interpreted as a veiled endorsement.
This development comes amid growing isolation of the incumbent Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, who has reportedly fallen out of favour with several county leaders and political figures. Political observers see Dr. Mutua’s latest move as a strategic positioning for the 2027 general election, potentially signaling a new alliance in the county’s political landscape.
Hon. Makau, popularly known as Mutemba, is yet to declare his gubernatorial ambitions publicly, but the increased political attention may indicate a shift in Machakos power dynamics ahead of the next polls.
As the political realignments begin to take shape, all eyes are on Machakos to see whether a Mutua-Makau alliance could pose a significant challenge to the current county leadership.
