Empowering PWDs in Kitui – County Government’s Inclusive Initiatives lauded

Persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Kitui have commended the County Government for its unwavering commitment to implementing initiatives aimed at enhancing their socio-economic empowerment.

Speaking during a stakeholders meeting in Kitui Town, Richard Ndambuki, an official of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), commended the county administration for its proactive measures in safeguarding the welfare of PWDs.

He highlighted the provision of assistive devices, consideration for public procurement and employment opportunities and PWD mainstreaming in governance activities as some of the commendable initiatives by the county government to foster inclusivity in the devolved unit.

Phoebe Mutemi, the CECM for Culture, Gender, Youth, ICT, Sports and Social Services, reiterated Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s administration’s steadfast dedication to improving the lives of all Kitui residents, including PWDs and marginalized groups.

CEC Mutemi further said the County Government was working closely with various stakeholders to develop a comprehensive policy tailored to address the specific needs and challenges faced by PWDs effectively.

Accompanied by Chief Officers Nelly Mutisya (Culture, Gender, and Social Services) and Nason Kang’alya (Youth, ICT, and Sports), CEC Mutemi underscored the importance of multi-sectoral cooperation in advancing the welfare of PWDs and ensuring their full integration into society.

Several MCAs led by the County Assembly’s Culture, Gender and Social Services Committee’s chairperson Hon. Judith Wanza (Nuu Ward) and Caritas-Kitui Director Florence Ndeti were also in attendance, among others.
