Former Senator David Musila Declares Bid for Kitui Governor Seat in 2027

Veteran politician and former Kitui Senator Hon. David Musila has officially announced his intention to contest for the Kitui gubernatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 General Election, adding to an already crowded race.

Speaking during a public event in Kitui, Musila confirmed his return to the political arena, saying, “I will be vying for the Kitui Governor’s seat in 2027. My experience and track record speak for themselves, and I believe I have what it takes to lead this county forward.”

Musila, who previously served as both Senator and Member of Parliament for Mwingi West, is known for his long-standing service in Kenyan politics and his influence in the region. His entry into the race is expected to shake up local political dynamics, with many viewing him as a seasoned contender capable of mobilizing significant grassroots support.

He joins a growing list of aspirants who have already declared interest in succeeding the incumbent Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, Other high-profile candidates include:

  • Nicholas Mulila, the former Chief Corporate Security Officer at Safaricom, who is positioning himself as a technocrat with a fresh approach to governance.
  • Dr. Makali Mulu, the current MP for Kitui Central, whose development record and legislative experience have earned him a solid following.
  • Hon. Irene Kasalu, the current Kitui County Woman Representative, known for her strong advocacy on education and women’s empowerment.
  • Hon. Charity Ngilu, the former Kitui Governor and Cabinet Minister, who remains a formidable political force with deep roots in county politics.
  • Senator Enoch Wambua, the current Kitui Senator and vocal Wiper Democratic Movement loyalist, also seen as a key contender.
