Kitui County Governor H.E. Dr. Julius Malombe on Tuesday led a host of leaders, family members, and residents in bidding farewell to the late Mzee Robert Mwangangi Mwongela, who passed away at the age of 101.
The solemn ceremony, held at Kalinditi village in Kauwi Ward, Kitui West Sub-county, brought together several notable leaders including Hon. Nicholas Mulila, Dr. Vincent Munyoki, Kauwi MCA Hon. Gabriel Munyao, TUK lecturer Prof. Jack Musembi, Mr. Charles Mulila, among others.
In his tribute, Governor Malombe remembered the late Mwongela as a man of integrity, resilience, and faith. He praised his journey through life — from working as a tea picker on colonial farms in Limuru to becoming an international long-distance driver who travelled across Africa, and later serving as an executive chauffeur to the late Hon. Kenneth Matiba.
“Robert Mwongela’s life is a powerful story of perseverance and excellence. His dedication to growth and learning, even in the face of challenges, is a lesson to us all,” said Governor Malombe.
The late Mwongela was also celebrated for his deep Christian faith. He was an active member of the Catholic Men Association (CMA) at St. Paul Kalinditi Church, where he completed his catechism and served faithfully for decades.
He is survived by seven children and many grandchildren, who now carry forward his legacy of discipline, hard work, and spiritual commitment.
Mzee Robert Mwongela’s remarkable life remains a shining example of what one can achieve through humility, dedication, and strong moral values.
