The national government has announced plans to construct a mini State Lodge in Kitui County ahead of this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, which will be hosted in the region for the first time.
The announcement comes as part of broader preparations to ensure a successful national event scheduled for October 20, 2025. The lodge will provide secure and dignified accommodation for the President and other high-ranking government officials during the celebrations.
Eastern Regional Commissioner Paul Rotich confirmed the development during a planning meeting with the Kitui County leadership, led by Governor Dr. Julius Malombe. He noted that the construction of the lodge is part of the infrastructural upgrades accompanying the transformation of Ithookwe Showground into a 10,000-seater international-standard stadium.
“The mini State Lodge is a key component of our preparations. It will not only serve Mashujaa Day but will also remain as a permanent presidential facility in Kitui,” said Rotich.
Governor Malombe welcomed the move, terming it a historic milestone that affirms Kitui’s growing national importance. He emphasized that the upcoming celebrations will unlock major infrastructure, security, and investment benefits for the county.
The construction of the State Lodge, along with the stadium and improvements to Ithookwe Airstrip and local roads, is expected to create job opportunities, boost local businesses, and enhance Kitui’s ability to host future high-level government functions.
