The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has officially advertised the long-awaited tender for the upgrading of the Mutomo–Isaa–Mutha road to bitumen standards, bringing renewed hope to residents of Kitui South. This transformative infrastructure project has been tirelessly lobbied for by Hon. Dr. Rachel Kaki Nyamai, the area Member of Parliament, who has made road development a key pillar of her agenda.
In a tender notice published by KeNHA, the Mutomo–Isaa–Mutha road appears under Tender No. KeNHA/2876/2025 and is part of a broader initiative to upgrade key roads across the country. The tenders will be funded through the national Development Vote.
KeNHA, a state corporation established under the Kenya Roads Act, 2007, is responsible for the management, development, rehabilitation, and maintenance of national roads. The Authority is inviting eligible contractors to bid for this vital project, among others.
According to the notice, a mandatory pre-tender site visit for the Mutomo–Isaa–Mutha road is scheduled for Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 2:00 PM, starting from Mutomo Junction. Interested bidders must attend this visit to qualify for the tender process.
The tender closing and opening date is set for Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at the KeNHA Headquarters located at Barabara Plaza, JKIA, Nairobi.
Tender documents can be downloaded free of charge from the KeNHA website (www.kenha.co.ke) or the Public Procurement Information Portal (PPIP) at www.tenders.go.ke. Alternatively, hard copies can be obtained from the KeNHA offices upon payment of Ksh 1,000 via banker’s cheque.
This milestone is seen as a major win for the residents of Kitui South, particularly the people of Mutomo, Isaa, and Mutha, who have long struggled with poor road connectivity. Once complete, the upgraded road will significantly boost local trade, reduce travel time, and improve access to markets and social amenities.
Residents and stakeholders have lauded Dr. Rachel Nyamai for her relentless efforts, saying the project will not only enhance mobility but also open up the region for more development.
