Former Kitui Senator Hon. David Musila has come out strongly to defend his political independence, telling Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to respect his personal opinions.
In a bold statement that has sent ripples through Kitui County’s political circles, Musila said, “Mimi sio wa Chama cha Wiper! You have no right to dictate about my personal opinions. Tuheshimiane,” — a direct message to Kalonzo, with whom he has had a strained political relationship in the past.
Musila, who now positions himself as a seasoned statesman and elder, emphasized the importance of mutual respect among leaders, especially in matters of political alignment and freedom of expression.

The remarks come amid ongoing political realignments in Ukambani, with key figures preparing for the 2027 general elections. While Kalonzo continues to position himself as the region’s kingpin and national presidential contender, Musila’s comments highlight simmering frustrations among leaders who feel sidelined or pressured to toe the Wiper Party line.
Political analysts note that Musila’s statement could embolden other leaders in the region to speak out, potentially reshaping Ukambani’s political landscape ahead of the next elections.
Efforts to reach Kalonzo or his party for a response were still underway by the time of publication.
