The Principal Secretary for Livestock Development, Hon. Jonathan Mueke, today joined the Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Moses Masika Wetang’ula, E.G.H, MP, in Kyuso for a vibrant Women and Youth Empowerment Program.
The high-profile event, held in Mwingi North constituency, showcased the government’s commitment to strengthening grassroots economic development through targeted support for local initiatives. The empowerment program brought together community members, youth groups, and women-led enterprises, reflecting the ongoing efforts under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
Hon. Mueke emphasized the Ministry of Livestock Development’s dedication to unlocking agribusiness potential in arid and semi-arid regions like Kyuso by enhancing access to resources, training, and sustainable livestock practices. He also reiterated the government’s resolve to support local communities with tools and knowledge to boost productivity and self-reliance.
Speaker Wetang’ula, who led the initiative, lauded the resilience of the people of Mwingi North and urged more youth and women to seize emerging opportunities being rolled out under BETA. He reaffirmed the National Assembly’s support for legislation and funding aimed at inclusive development.
“These programs are not just symbolic. They represent a concrete shift in how we approach development—from the grassroots up. The future belongs to empowered citizens,” said Speaker Wetang’ula.
The event also included the distribution of equipment and seed capital to local groups, as well as training sessions on entrepreneurship, livestock management, and value addition.
The visit by senior government officials underscores the administration’s priority to bring services closer to the people and ensure that no region is left behind in Kenya’s development journey.
