How County Government is doing Towards Water Security in kitui

The County government of kitui it is Taking serious Strides Towards Water Security development In a commendable display of commitment to addressing challenges, the Government led by H.E. Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, continues to forge partnerships with development entities.

Recently, during a development tour of Mwingi Central Sub-County, Water and Irrigation CECM Peter Nkunda highlighted the county’s efforts to mitigate water scarcity, a critical issue facing Kitui residents.

One notable project inspected during the tour is the Mwania-Maongoa Sand Dam and Sumpwell Water Supply in Thonoa Village of Waita Ward. Funded by the European Union and implemented by the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) in collaboration with the Kitui County Government, this initiative underscores the power of partnerships in addressing community needs.

The scope of the project is comprehensive, addressing various aspects of water infrastructure. Key features include the construction of a sand dam weir, a 4-meter diameter sump well, installation of a solar pumping system, guardhouse, fencing, and the establishment of pipelines and water kiosks. Additionally, the project includes the construction of a 100,000-liter masonry tank, ensuring sufficient water storage capacity to serve the community.

CEC Nkunda expressed gratitude for the support from NDMA, emphasizing that the partnership will significantly benefit over 5,000 households, livestock, health facilities, markets, and schools in the region. This initiative represents a crucial step towards achieving universal water coverage in Kitui County, addressing the basic needs of its residents and fostering sustainable development.

The involvement of local leaders, such as Waita MCA Hon Kasungi Kavula, underscores the collective commitment to advancing the county’s development agenda.
