I’m here until 2032, Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe Declares

KITUI, May 23, 2024 – Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe has made a bold declaration, expressing his confidence that he will serve as governor until 2032. Addressing those eyeing the gubernatorial seat in the 2027 general elections, Dr. Malombe stated that he is poised to secure another term, extending his leadership for an additional five years.

Governor Malombe, who was previously on a sabbatical from 2017 to 2022, returned to find the county in disarray. “The governor during my absence had messed up the county,” he said. “I am confident that the people of Kitui will give me another chance to continue the work we’ve started.”

Speaking at the event, Governor Malombe highlighted the remarkable progress made in controlling the spread of HIV and TB within the county. He attributed this success to the collaborative efforts of the county government and its partners. Notably, the HIV prevalence rate in Kitui has decreased from 3.8% in 2021 to 3.1% in 2024.

Dr. Malombe’s confidence stems from his commitment to rectifying past mismanagement and advancing development initiatives in Kitui. As the 2027 elections approach, his declaration sets the stage for a potentially contentious race, with rivals now on notice of his intent to remain at the helm for the next eight years.
