A marital dispute has rocked a village in Kakamega after a man threatened to divorce his wife over a funeral tradition he claims violated his trust.
The husband was left in shock when his wife returned from a burial with her private parts shaved, a practice observed in some Luhya sub-communities as part of mourning rites. According to sources, the woman participated in the tradition to honor the deceased, but her husband sees it as an unacceptable act of betrayal.
“I had no idea such a thing existed. How can she do this without telling me? This is complete disrespect,” the angry husband reportedly told villagers. He now insists the marriage is over, arguing that personal boundaries should come before cultural practices.
The wife, however, stands by her actions, insisting that she was merely upholding a tradition passed down for generations. “This is what we do in our culture. I did nothing wrong,” she said.
The incident has sparked heated debate in the community, with some defending the woman’s adherence to cultural norms, while others side with the husband, questioning whether such customs still hold relevance in modern relationships.
As the dispute escalates, local elders and family members are reportedly trying to mediate, hoping to save the marriage. However, it remains unclear whether the husband will reconsider his stance or if this cultural divide will lead to a permanent split.
What do you think? Should tradition take precedence over personal boundaries in marriage?
