Kenya’s opposition leader, H.E. Kalonzo Musyoka, joined the Japanese diplomatic community in celebrating the 65th birthday of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito at the Official Residence of Ambassador H.E. Hiroshi Matsuura in Nairobi. The event underscored the enduring friendship and cooperation between Kenya and Japan.
Speaking at the event, Kalonzo Musyoka extended warm wishes to Emperor Naruhito, expressing his hope for the continued prosperity of the Japanese people. He also reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Japan in various sectors, including trade, education, health, and infrastructure development.

“Kenya and Japan have enjoyed cordial relations since 1964, when Japan established a diplomatic mission in Nairobi shortly after our independence. Our partnership has grown over the years, with Japan playing a significant role in Kenya’s development through its Official Development Assistance (ODA) in key areas such as agriculture, water and sanitation, healthcare, education, and environmental conservation,” Kalonzo stated.
As Kenya remains the largest recipient of Japan’s ODA in Sub-Saharan Africa, both nations continue to explore new opportunities for collaboration to advance mutual economic and social interests. The celebration of Emperor Naruhito’s birthday served as a reminder of the strong diplomatic ties and shared aspirations between the two countries.
