Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is under increasing pressure to redefine his political trajectory following reports that ODM leader Raila Odinga is warming up to President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 general election.
For over 15 years, Kalonzo has stood by Raila, shelving his own presidential ambitions in favor of supporting the former Prime Minister. However, with Raila’s latest moves signaling a potential alliance with the Kenya Kwanza administration, Kalonzo’s allies are calling for a decisive shift.
“We have consistently told Kalonzo that ODM will never back his ambitions, and today we have been vindicated,” a close ally of the Wiper leader stated. “It’s time for him to either take up the mantle of the opposition leadership or join the broad-based government and abandon his 2027 presidential bid.”
Political analysts argue that this moment presents Kalonzo with an opportunity to assert his independence and rally his supporters without relying on Raila’s political shadow. “If he wants to be a serious presidential contender, he must step out and chart his own path,” said one commentator.
As the 2027 political realignments take shape, all eyes will be on Kalonzo Musyoka to see whether he will embrace opposition leadership or reconsider his political strategy in the face of changing alliances.
