Kalonzo Slams Ruto: “Stop Turning State House Into a Church!”

Kalonzo Accuses President Ruto of Breaching Constitution Over Religious Activities at State House

By Muli Mulla.

Wiper Party leader and Azimio la Umoja co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka has launched a scathing attack on President William Samoei Ruto, accusing him of violating the Constitution by blurring the line between state and religion.

In a strongly worded statement posted on his social media pages, Kalonzo said President Ruto’s continued use of State House for overtly religious functions is not only inappropriate but amounts to an impeachable offence.

“There is a clear line of separation between state and religion. Even the colonialists didn’t build a church at the Government House,” Kalonzo said.

He urged the Head of State to respect the spirit and letter of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, which guarantees freedom of religion while firmly upholding the secular nature of the Republic.

“This tragic drama, Mr William Ruto, has to stop. If you are the holder of the highest office in the land, act in accordance with the Constitution that you swore to uphold,” Kalonzo added.

The former Vice President further called on the President to let Kenyans enjoy the constitutional freedoms entrenched under the leadership of former President Mwai Kibaki, under whose administration the 2010 Constitution was promulgated.

Kalonzo’s remarks come amid growing debate over the increased religious events and prayer services held at State House and other official government spaces under President Ruto’s administration, which critics say undermine Kenya’s secular governance framework.
