Kenya has secured a prestigious seat on the United Nations Tourism Executive Council in a highly contested election held in Abuja, Nigeria. The council is the second most powerful organ of the UN Tourism body after the General Assembly and plays a critical role in shaping global tourism policy.
The announcement came during an official forum attended by high-level delegates from various countries, where Kenya’s bid was lauded for its strong tourism credentials and progressive vision for the sector.
Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Rebecca Miano, led Kenya’s delegation to the event. She was accompanied by a team of senior Government officials who played a key role in supporting the CS throughout the engagement.
“This win is not just a diplomatic victory for Kenya but a recognition of our growing influence in the global tourism space,” said CS Miano. “It is a testament to the government’s continued efforts to elevate Kenya’s tourism standing internationally.”
The CS Miano , alongside other officials, participated in high-level discussions and bilateral meetings aimed at strengthening Kenya’s ties with tourism stakeholders across Africa and beyond.
Kenya’s election to the Executive Council is expected to enhance the country’s capacity to influence international tourism strategies, attract investment, and promote its rich cultural and ecological heritage on a global platform.
