The Anglicans in the Kitui County on Saturday, May 31, 2025 celebrated their diocese’s 30 years where the celebrations were held at the diocesan Saint Martin’s cathedral.
The former Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Archbishop Benjamin Mwanzia Nzimbi, former Kitui County Governor Charity Kaluki Ngilu, Kitui Central Constituency Member of Parliament Dr. Benson Makali Mulu, Safaricom Foundation Chief Risk Management and Security Officer Nicholas Muinde Mulila and Deputy Kitui County Assembly Speaker Christopher Nzilu Nzioka among others were the event’s chief guests. And they addressed the faithful.
The colourful ceremony had been organised by the diocese in partnership with the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK), Jadean Hardwares Limited, NCBA Bank, absa Kenya, Mwalimu National Sacco, Kalundu Makutano Stores, Cooperative Bank of Kenya (CBK), Kitui Parkside Villa Hotel, Kitui Premier Hotel, At Your Service, Simple Steps to Green, San Marino Hotel, Equity Bank, Family Bank, Best Outlets, Muthokinju Paints and Cement and Rammats Kitui.
The Anglican Church of Kenya Kitui Diocese was carved from the larger Anglican Church of Kenya Machakos Diocese in 1995 with Benjamin Mwanzia Nzimbi being its first bishop.
Addressing the thousands of the faithful who attended the ACK Kitui Diocese’s 30 years celebrations, the diocesan bishop, the Right Reverend Gideon Muneeni Nzoka, highly appreciated them (the faithful) for having attended the occasion in large numbers. “I am very happy to see you,” he told the congregation.
The prelate disclosed that the ACK Kitui Diocese comprises a total of 105 parishes and a total of eight archdeaconries.
“The eight archdeaconries are the Kitui, Syongila, Katheka, Ulungu, Ikanga, Mwingi, Kyuso and Yatta,” he said, adding that they (the diocese) cover the whole Kitui County.
Nzoka announced that they (the diocese) will have a diocesan education day at the diocesan Emco Academy in July 2025. “We are to arrange the date for very July 2025 education day,” he added.
“A diocese requires three things to become a diocese. It requires the office, the church and the bishop’s house” Bishop Nzoka said as he highly lauded the excellent track record of his predecessors-Benjamin Mwanzia Nzimbi and Josephat Vundi Mule. And he also lauded his own excellent track record.
“The Archbishop (Nzimbi) constructed the diocesan office. And Mule constructed the bishop’s house. And I myself constructed the church (the cathedral),” he said.
Benjamin Mwanzia Nzimbi (80) served as the first Anglican Church of Kenya Kitui Diocesan Bishop from April 1, 1995 to November 8, 2002. And Josephat Vundi Mule (72) served as the diocese’s second bishop from November 8, 2002 to January 19, 2020. And the current and the third diocesan bishop Gideon Muneeni Nzoka (63) has led the diocese since January 19, 2020.
The end of the story.
