Kitui Central Gears Up for 2027 Parliamentary Race as MP Makali Mulu Eyes Governor Seat

The political landscape in Kitui Central Constituency is set for a major shake-up ahead of the 2027 general election following the announcement by the sitting MP, Dr. Makali Mulu, that he will not be defending his seat. Instead, the three-term legislator has declared his intention to run for the Kitui gubernatorial seat, leaving the parliamentary contest wide open.

With Dr. Mulu’s exit, the race to succeed him is already taking shape, with three prominent figures emerging as frontrunners. Among them is journalist-turned-politician Bonnie Musambi, who gave a strong challenge in the 2022 election and is expected to make another bid. Musambi enjoys a considerable following, particularly among urban voters and professionals, and is likely to build on his previous campaign experience.

Another key contender is former Kitui County Chief of Staff, Mr. Chrispus Ileli, who has gained significant support from the younger generation, particularly Generation Z. His administrative experience and appeal among youth could play a crucial role in shaping the contest.

Also generating buzz is Mr. Augustus Kyalo Muli, the patron of the Anzauni National Clan and the founder of Kyalo Kya Maendeleo CBO. Muli, a respected community leader, is seen as a strong candidate if he chooses to enter the race, with his grassroots influence and development agenda making him one to watch.

As the election nears, Kitui Central voters will be keenly evaluating the candidates, focusing on their leadership qualities, development track records, and ability to represent their interests in Parliament. With the seat now open, the constituency is set for an intense political battle that will shape its leadership for the next five years.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
