Kitui, 26th June 2024 — In a productive session held this morning, the Kitui County Assembly approved three significant motions that promise to impact education, legal affairs, and county governance positively.
The first motion, focusing on the adoption of the report by the Committee on Basic Education, Training, and Skills Development, highlighted the inspection of early childhood development education centres in Kitui County.
Chairperson Hon. Mark Nding’o (Yatta/Kwa Vonza) underscored the necessity for increased funding in the Education Ministry to enhance these centres. The motion received robust support and was seconded by Hon. Cyrus Kisavi (Ikanga Ward).

The second motion centered on the adoption of the report by the Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs, which assessed the implementation status of the South Eastern Kenya Economic Block (SEKEB) Act 2022. This motion was presented by Committee Chair Hon. Cyrus Kisavi (Ikanga Ward) and seconded by Hon. Benjamin Mulandi (Mutonguni Ward), highlighting the need for continued oversight and effective implementation of the SEKEB Act.
The final motion approved was the adoption of the report by the Committee on Administration and Coordination of County Affairs and the Committee on Powers and Privileges regarding training on county governance and oversight. This report emphasized the integration of administration, power, and privilege in county governance. The motion, moved by Hon. Boniface Katumbi (Kyangwithya East) and seconded by Hon. Rose Kathoka, aims to enhance the governance skills and oversight capabilities of county officials.
