The National Government, through the Ministry of Health, has handed over a disease surveillance vehicle to Kitui County as part of a nationwide initiative aimed at strengthening public health surveillance and achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
The official handover ceremony took place at State House Nairobi, where Kitui County Deputy Governor H.E. Wambua Kanani represented Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, EGH.
This vehicle is part of a fleet of 47 – one for each county – delivered to enhance the capacity of county health departments in detecting, monitoring, and responding to disease outbreaks and other public health threats. The initiative is a product of close collaboration between the Ministry of Health and county governments to improve health preparedness and service delivery at the grassroots level.
Deputy Governor Kanani, while conveying Governor Malombe’s gratitude, emphasized the critical role the vehicle will play in Kitui. “Kitui is vast, and this vehicle will enable our health teams to access remote areas that have long been underserved. It will ensure more efficient surveillance and timely responses during disease outbreaks,” he stated.
The handover aligns with Governor Malombe’s commitment to prioritize health in the county’s development agenda. A significant portion of the county’s budget has been allocated to revitalizing healthcare services, ensuring a healthier population and fulfilling the promise of improved well-being for all residents.
This development marks a major milestone in strengthening Kitui County’s health system and reaffirms the government’s dedication to delivering quality healthcare across the country.
