Kitui County’s Finance CECM, Hon. Peter Mwikya, on Monday led a public participation forum on the county’s 2025/2026 draft budget at KEFRI in Kitui Town. The session attracted residents from all constituencies, marking a strong show of participatory governance.
The proposed budget totals Sh13.7 billion, with Sh4.4 billion (32%) allocated to development, exceeding the constitutional minimum. Recurrent expenditure is set at Sh9.3 billion (67.8%), balancing operations with long-term investments.
Hon. Mwikya highlighted key revenue sources: Sh11.38 billion from national equitable share, Sh1.07 billion in own revenue, and Sh1.29 billion from grants. Health tops the allocations with Sh4.042 billion, followed by Education (Sh1.1B), Roads (Sh951M), and Agriculture (Sh657M).
Senior county officials, including Trade CECM Rose Mutuku and several Chief Officers, presented sector budgets and answered public questions. The forum reinforced Kitui’s commitment to transparency and citizen-driven development.
