Thursday, May 30, 2024

Nairobi – The 21st National Prayer Breakfast, an annual event hosted by the National Parliament on the last Thursday of May, took place today at Safari Park Hotel. Among the distinguished attendees were County Assembly Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinego Katisya, Deputy Speaker Christopher Nzioka Nzilu (Kyangwithya West), Leader of the Majority Party Hon. Munyoki Mwinzi (Kyuso), and Majority Whip Hon. Daniel Ngoima Kimanzi (Township). They joined other national and county leaders for a day of reflection and unity under the theme of ‘Hope.’

The event featured a unique element this year, with two children from each of Kenya’s 47 counties in attendance. Representing Kitui County were Elsie Ndambuki and Nelson Nyamai, both 10-year-old students from Central Primary, Kitui Town. These young ambassadors were commissioned as “Kenya’s Ambassadors to the Future.” In a symbolic gesture, they are expected to return to the same stage in 50 years to assess the nation’s progress in fostering national unity.

The keynote address was delivered by Tamrat Layne, former Ethiopian Prime Minister, who underscored the significance of maintaining hope even in challenging times. This message was echoed by other leaders, reinforcing the day’s theme and encouraging a forward-looking perspective.

High-profile attendees included President Dr. William Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, First Lady Rachel Ruto, Second Lady Pastor Dorcas Rigathi Gachagua, National Assembly Speaker Hon. Moses Masika Wetangula, Senate Speaker Hon. Amason Kingi, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and numerous senior government officials.

The event served not only as a moment of spiritual reflection but also as a commitment to unity and hope for the future of Kenya, as expressed by the diverse assembly of leaders and the young representatives who symbolize the next generation.
