Kitui County Seizes Expired Wimbi and Maize Flour Distributed to 80 Schools

The Ministry of Health and Sanitation in Kitui County has officially ordered the immediate seizure of wimbi and maize flour distributed to 80 schools in Kitui South Sub-county. The move follows the discovery that the food products failed to meet required food safety standards, having been distributed after their expiry dates had lapsed.

In a statement issued to schools and stakeholders, the Ministry instructed all institutions to set aside the affected flour and halt any further use of it in meal preparation. “We request that all the wimbi and maize flour supplied under this distribution be set aside and not used for any purpose until further notice,” read the statement.

“A team has been dispatched to the eighty concerned schools for further investigation.”The Ministry urged schools to securely store the flour in its current state and ensure it remains untouched until further instructions are provided. “Please ensure that the wimbi and maize flour is securely stored and not used for any meal preparation. Your cooperation in this matter will be highly appreciated.”

This decisive step, the Ministry emphasized, is necessary to ensure the health and safety of learners in the affected schools. The announcement has raised concerns among parents and school administrators as investigations proceed to determine how expired food products were distributed to the schools.

Authorities have assured the public that they are taking all necessary measures to address the issue and protect the well-being of the students.Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
