Kitui County is on track to becoming a regional hub for sports talent development following a new partnership with Uganda-based NGO, Spot Africa Child Talent (SACT), to construct a state-of-the-art stadium.
Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, EGH, hosted officials from SACT at his office on Monday, where plans were unveiled for the development of a 14-acre sports complex aimed at nurturing young and vulnerable talent in the county and across East Africa.
The mega project, valued at over Ksh 1 billion (£6.2 million), is funded through a joint grant by Funding For Sports (UK) and GR. Consultancy. The proposed facility will include a main pitch, a swimming pool, a training pitch, two basketball courts, two volleyball courts, two lawn tennis courts, and an indoor training arena with full administrative amenities.
Governor Malombe welcomed the initiative, saying the county government is committed to partnerships that empower its people.
“This facility will significantly enhance the talents of our youth and create jobs for our people,” he said.
Kitui County Sports Minister, Ms. Phoebe Mutemi, praised the project as a “game changer,” expressing her gratitude for the opportunity it brings to local youth.
SACT Kenya Director, Mr. Jared Nyauma, confirmed that once the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is signed and land allocated, the project will begin immediately and be completed within two years.
Mr. Nyauma was accompanied by SACT CEO Walter Ateya, Co-director Henry Alisa, and Sports Enthusiast Angeline Elija.
Also present at the meeting were senior county officials, including Chief Officers Evans Mutemi, Nason Kang’alya, Esther Mutemi, and CECMs Fredrik Kimanga, Eng. Mulwa Itiko, John Mwendandu, and Phoebe Mutemi.
This stadium is expected to open new doors for thousands of youth across Kitui County and beyond, cementing the region’s status as a growing center for sports excellence.
Delivering the Kitui County Promise.
