The Kenya Government workers Union – Kitui branch Union led by Executive secretary Eng Faith Moki, has raised alarm over growing incidents of intimidation targeting its members. Speaking to the press outside their offices, Eng Moki condemned what she described as a coordinated effort by certain individuals, both from within the government and from the public, to harass county employees.
“We do hereby wish to bring to your attention that some disgruntled members of the public have been intimidating Kitui County government workers, who are our union members, through social media platforms and phone calls,” Moki stated.
According to Moki, recent threats have included plans to mobilize demonstrations against the county workers and attempts to eject them from their offices. She emphasized that the union will not tolerate such actions and warned that any further intimidation will be met with a strong response from all Kitui County government workers.
“As public servants, we believe in the rule of law. Anyone with a complaint against any of us should raise it through the appropriate legal channels, both now and in the future,” she added.
They say, Governor Malombe Will not be distracted by elements who are on Contracts and are busy fueling animosity in his government ,”they say very soon they will call out individuals who are using bloggers to intimidate civil servants within his admunstration.
The union’s statement came after a meeting with the Officer in Charge of the Kitui Central Police Division, during which they sought assurances for the protection of workers. The union has also copied their letter of concern to Kitui County Commissioner Mr. Kipchumba Ruto and the Secretary of the Kitui County Government.
The union reiterated its commitment to standing by its members and ensuring a safe working environment free from external threats.
