Kitui Deputy Gov Wambua Kanani Joins Governor Malombe in Signing of Performance Contracts

On July 10, 2024 – Kitui County Government took a significant step towards enhancing accountability, transparency, and service delivery with the signing of Performance Contracts for the 2024/2025 financial year.

The ceremony, held at the county headquarters, was presided over by Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe, with Deputy Governor Augustine Kanani, who also serves as the Minister in charge of the Performance Contracts, in attendance.

Kitui County Government Commits to Accountability and Excellence through Performance Contracts

Governor Malombe emphasized the government’s dedication to using the performance contracting system as a primary approach to achieving the 16 sector development priorities outlined in his manifesto. He stated, “I affirm that my government will use the performance contracting system as its main systematic approach where the 16 sector development priorities outlined in the governor’s manifesto.”

The contracts, which will be cascaded down to chief officers, directors, municipality managers, and other officers through the staff performance appraisal system, aim to ensure high performance and tangible benefits for the people of Kitui. “It is imperative that we not only aim for high performance but also ensure that our efforts translate into tangible benefits for our people,” said Governor Malombe.

Highlighting the exemplary performance demonstrated by all county ministries in implementing the contracts, the Governor noted that this has led to improved service delivery. He also pointed out that the new contracts will incorporate a component of productivity mainstreaming, as guided by the 3rd national wage bill conference held at the Bomas of Kenya in April. This addition underscores the importance of aligning targets with measurable outputs and outcomes.

The Deputy Governor, Augustine Kanani, reiterated the government’s commitment to continuous improvement and excellence in service delivery. “The signing of these contracts marks a crucial step in our ongoing efforts to improve accountability and transparency in our operations,” he said.
