Kitui Deputy Governor Kanani Joins Gov Malombe to Champions for Education Equity at Day of the African Child Celebration

Kitui Deputy Governor, HE Wambua Kanani joined Governor Malombe to inaugurate a week-long commemoration of the Day of the African Child with a call to honor the memory of the hundreds of children who lost their lives during the Soweto uprising in 1976.

The event, hosted at Ithookwe Primary School, saw the attendance of Governor HE Dr. Julius Malombe and Mr. Lumbasi from the National Department of Higher Education.

HE Wambua Kanani emphasized the significance of the occasion, stating, “We celebrate the Day of the African Child to pay homage to those brave souls who protested for equality in education.

Their sacrifice underscores the necessity of ensuring that our education systems are resilient and provide inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning opportunities for all African children.”

This year’s theme, “Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa,” reflects the urgent need to equip African children with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in the modern world.
