The Kitui County Ministry of Health and Sanitation on Wednesday appeared before the County Assembly’s Health and Sanitation Committee to present and defend its proposed budget estimates for the 2025/2026 financial year.
Leading the ministry’s delegation was County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health and Sanitation, Ruth Koki, who was accompanied by Chief Officers Lynn Kitwan (Public Health and Sanitation), Dr. Benson Musyoka (Medical Services), and Aggrey Kamba (Drugs and Medical Supplies).
The team outlined the ministry’s spending priorities for the upcoming financial year, focusing on critical areas such as procurement of essential medical supplies, upgrading and construction of health infrastructure, and bolstering community health services. Updates were also provided on ongoing and planned health programs aimed at enhancing service delivery and access across Kitui County.
Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) engaged the ministry’s officials in a rigorous question-and-answer session, seeking clarifications and supporting data to ensure the proposed allocations reflect real health needs on the ground. The interaction forms part of the broader County Assembly budget review process under the Sectoral Committees Program.
The budget hearing underscores the county government’s commitment to transparency and evidence-based planning, in line with Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s development manifesto. Dr. Malombe has consistently emphasized prudent use of public resources as key to achieving transformative health outcomes for Kitui residents.
The ministry’s appearance before the committee is one among several similar sessions being conducted with all county departments, as the Third County Assembly, in its Fourth Session, scrutinizes the proposed 2025/2026 budget estimates.
