The Secretary General of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Kitui branch, Mr. Simon Mutunga Ndingo, has urged the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to ensure fairness and transparency in the ongoing teacher recruitment exercise in Kitui County.
Speaking to the press, Mr. Ndingo cited cases where trained teachers, who are married within various sub-counties, have been excluded from filling employment forms despite meeting all qualifications.
He noted that some of these teachers have been denied the opportunity simply because they were not born in the sub-counties where their spouses reside, he emphasized on married lady teachers to be given an opportunity to be employed within the subcounties where they are married.
Mr. Ndingo contrasted this situation with neighboring counties such as Machakos and Makueni, where married women from different regions have been allowed to apply for teaching positions upon presenting their marriage certificates and affidavits.
However, he alleged that a discriminatory practice in Kitui County has prevented similar considerations from being extended to teachers married within the county.
He called upon the Director of TSC to intervene and put an end to what he termed as blatant discrimination in the hiring process. The recruitment exercise for primary school teachers in Kitui County is set to commence tomorrow, and Mr. Ndingo has urged TSC to ensure that all qualified candidates receive equal opportunities, regardless of their place of birth.
Efforts to get a response from the TSC regarding these claims were not immediately successful.////
