The Kitui Ministry of Culture, Gender, and Social Services has initiated a series of training forums aimed at equipping women with essential social and economic skills. These forums, held across various parts of Mwingi Central and Mwingi West Sub-Counties, seek to empower women, providing them with the tools needed for socioeconomic advancement.
Culture, Gender, and Social Services CECM Phoebe Mutemi addressed women groups, emphasizing the pivotal role women play in society and the necessity of their empowerment.
Mutemi highlighted the numerous challenges women face, including unstable incomes and persistent social practices that favor male dominance. She encouraged women to innovate and persevere despite these obstacles.”Women are the cornerstone of our communities, and empowering them socioeconomically is crucial for our collective prosperity,” said Mutemi.
She reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to implementing initiatives that tackle the specific issues facing women in Kitui, promoting both empowerment and inclusivity.Nelly Mutisya, the Chief Officer for Culture, Gender, and Social Services, urged women across Kitui to form groups and Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (Saccos).
These groups and Saccos will act as vital channels for engagement with the County Government and development partners, facilitating socioeconomic support.Nuu MCA Hon. Judith Wanza praised Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s administration for its ongoing efforts to empower women and improve the livelihoods of Kitui residents.
The training sessions were attended by several women’s groups, including Ushindi wa Wamama Mathunzini in Nguutani Ward, Mutyangombe Business Women group in Waita Ward, and Haki ya Wamama in Nuu Ward. Key officials present included Assistant Director for Social Services Patrick Kutu and Social Welfare Officers Lilian Ngomo and Juliet Mwendwa.
