Kitui MPs, led by Kitui Central MP Dr. Makali Mulu, have strongly opposed plans to relocate the Tana Athi Water Development Authority offices from Kitui to Makueni County. Speaking to the media, Dr. Mulu accused the authority’s board of engaging in office politics instead of focusing on their core mandate of providing water to the people.
Dr. Mulu stated that Kitui leaders would resist any attempts to move the offices, arguing that such a move was driven by personal interests rather than public service. He emphasized that the board should channel resources toward improving water access rather than spending funds on new offices.“As leaders from Kitui, we will not allow the relocation of these offices to Makueni simply because the current chairperson comes from there.
If the board insists on this move, we will petition President William Ruto to disband it and appoint a new one that is committed to serving Kenyans,” Dr. Mulu warned.
The MP further accused the authority of failing in its mandate and vowed that Kitui leaders would take action to ensure the interests of their constituents are protected. He called on the government to intervene and stop the planned relocation.
The Tana Athi Water Development Authority plays a crucial role in water resource management in the region, and its relocation has sparked concerns among Kitui residents and leaders who fear it could lead to service disruptions.
