On Thursday, February 27, 2025 – The much-anticipated Kangu Kangu Water Project in Kitui County is set to be commissioned by the end of June this year. This follows a high-level meeting between Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe and World Vision National Director Gilbert Kamanga.
The project, a collaboration between the County Government of Kitui and World Vision, is expected to significantly improve water access, sanitation, hygiene, and nutrition, ultimately enhancing livelihoods in the region.
To oversee the final stages of the project, a six-member committee has been appointed. Once completed, the facility will provide an estimated 1.4 million litres of water daily, addressing a crucial need for residents.
During the discussions, both parties also explored further partnership opportunities, particularly the Ngomano Water Project in Kitui East, which could further boost water accessibility across the county.
The meeting was attended by key county and World Vision officials, including Acting County Secretary Agnes Mulewa, County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) Peter Gitonga, Eng. Reuben Itiko, Ruth Koki, and Dr. Mbaya Kimwele. Chief Officers Nathan Vungo, Gladys Kivoto, Peter Ketonya, and Jonathan Kyambi were also present.
World Vision was represented by Programmes Effectiveness and Implementation Director Frederick Kasiku, Operations Director Miriam Mbembe, and Kitui Cluster Manager Gibson Kimani.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in Kitui County’s efforts to address water scarcity and improve the quality of life for its residents.
