Kitui County Deputy Governor H.E. Wambua Kanani has announced that the Mutitu Level IV Hospital, soon to be renamed Nzamba Kitonga Memorial Hospital, will host a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) campus. He made the announcement while representing Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, EGH, as Chief Guest at a major fundraiser held at St. Joseph’s Mutitu Boys Secondary School in Mutitu/Kaliku Ward, Kitui East Sub-county.
The Deputy Governor said the new KMTC campus is part of Governor Malombe’s flagship projects aimed at expanding access to affordable medical training in Kitui East and spurring local development.
“This development will open up the area and provide opportunities for our children to access affordable education. It will also create a vibrant micro-business environment for local investors in hostels and other student-related services,” said DG Kanani.
In his address, he also urged students to embrace hard work and academic excellence, echoing Governor Malombe’s education-focused agenda dubbed “Kisomo Nokyo.”
“The future belongs to those who prepare for it. Our Governor is championing the rallying call ‘Kisomo Nokyo’—so boys, work hard and craft a future you will be proud of,” Kanani told the students.
The fundraiser sought to raise Ksh 30 million to complete the school’s dining hall and renovate the institution’s aging infrastructure. The event raised over Ksh 4 million, which will go toward completing the dining facility in the first phase of the project.
Also in attendance were Mr. Henry Nyamai, Chief Officer for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mutitu/Kaliku Ward Administrator Mr. Mwendwa, school leadership, and community stakeholders.
The proposed renaming of the hospital honors the late Nzamba Kitonga, a celebrated legal mind and one of the key architects of Kenya’s 2010 Constitution.
