On Friday May 3, 2025 — The Principal Secretary for Livestock Development, Jonathan Mueke visited the Ndui Beekeeping Group in Mutomo/Kibwea Ward, Kitui South, as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to promote livestock value addition and rural livelihoods.
During the visit, PS Mueke inspected progress on a beekeeping initiative backed by the State Department for Livestock, which had earlier provided beehives to the group. He also delivered a cash donation aimed at enhancing value addition, improving honey production, and boosting the group’s income-generating capacity.
“The government is keen on empowering livestock farmers through targeted support that promotes productivity and sustainability,” Mueke said. “Beekeeping is a critical part of our livestock value chain and has great potential to transform rural economies.”
The PS was accompanied by several Members of the Kitui County Assembly, including Hon. Deborah Mutuku, Hon. Ciambutura Karigi, Hon. Benjamin Mulandi, and Hon. Fridah Maua, who applauded the national government’s support for local agricultural initiatives.
The visit underscores the government’s broader commitment to strengthening the livestock sector as a key contributor to the national economy.
