Major Boost for Ukambani – Government Injects KSh 518.7 Billion into Key Development Projects

In a landmark decision aimed at accelerating development and addressing critical infrastructure needs, the National Government has announced a significant financial commitment to the Ukambani region.

With a total of KSh 518.7 billion earmarked for various projects, the region is set for a transformative journey towards sustainable growth and prosperity, according to CS Malonza.

High Grand Falls Development Project, The High Grand Falls Development Project leads the way with a staggering allocation of KSh 425 billion. This substantial investment highlights the government’s dedication to leveraging the region’s natural resources to boost economic advancement and enhance energy security.

The Thwake Dam project, receiving KSh 80 billion, represents a critical step towards improving water resource management and expanding irrigation. This initiative is expected to address water scarcity, increase agricultural productivity, and improve livelihoods across Ukambani.

Uma Dam

Smaller-scale projects are also receiving attention, with KSh 1.6 billion allocated to the Uma Dam. This investment is crucial for developing decentralized water supply systems, benefiting local communities and enhancing resilience against droughts.

Kiambere and Kindaruma Dams

A combined investment of KSh 12 billion in the Kiambere and Kindaruma dams underscores the government’s commitment to modernizing existing infrastructure. These upgrades aim to increase efficiency and reliability in power generation.

SOCIAL DAMS

To address water scarcity at the grassroots level, 11 social dams in Kitui are set to receive KSh 100 million. These smaller initiatives are pivotal in providing clean water access for domestic use and agricultural activities.

Rural Electrification

In a bid to bridge the energy gap and promote inclusive development, eight constituencies in Kitui will benefit from KSh 500 million allocated for rural electrification. This initiative aims to improve electricity access, enhancing connectivity and enabling economic opportunities in rural areas.

These investments represent more than infrastructural developments; they signify a commitment to empowering local communities, fostering economic growth, and enhancing the quality of life for residents in Ukambani.
