Malombe’s Chief Officer Leads Farmer Sensitization Forum on Saccos for NAVCDP

Kitui, June 10, 2024 – The Chief Officer for Agriculture and Fisheries in Kitui, Gladys Kivoto, spearheaded a farmer sensitization forum today focused on Saccos for the National Agricultural and Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP) on behalf of Governor Dr Julius Makau Malombe EGH.

The event took place in the Yatta/Kwa Vonza and Mulango Wards of Kitui Rural and Kitui Central Sub-counties.

The forum aims to enhance access to affordable credit for farmers affiliated with Common Interest Groups (CIGs) and Vulnerable Marginalized Groups (VMGs). This initiative is expected to enable these farmers to access quality agricultural inputs, adopt promoted agricultural technologies, engage in irrigation, benefit from extension services, and gain access to value addition and market linkages.

During her address, Chief Officer Kivoto emphasized the importance of farmers joining Saccos and actively recruiting more members. She highlighted that Saccos with a larger membership base stand to benefit more significantly from government projects and initiatives.

“This initiative is crucial for empowering our farmers and ensuring they have the necessary resources to improve their agricultural productivity and livelihoods,” said Kivoto.

The forum marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to support agricultural development and value chain enhancement in Kitui County.
