On 11th September 2024 – Outstanding Member of kitui County assembly for yatta kwa Vonza hon Mark Kitute Nding’ o officially handed over a completed sand dam at Mwitasyano, located in Isiuko Kwa Mbinya, Kwavonza.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, MCA Ndingo expressed the importance of the project in addressing water shortages and enhancing local livelihoods. “It’s a great step to conserve our resources and create a sustainable future,” he told the press.
The sand dam, constructed with local labor and funded through the county’s development initiatives, is designed to trap rainwater and increase underground water storage. This will provide reliable access to water for the local residents, especially during the dry seasons, promoting agriculture and ensuring water security.
Local community leaders and residents praised the initiative, citing the challenges they have faced over the years due to water scarcity. Many hope the project will be the first of many such initiatives in the region to combat the adverse effects of climate change and ensure a sustainable future for future generations.
Hon. Ndingo reiterated his commitment to pursuing more development projects in Yatta Kwa Vonza to improve the lives of his constituents, the projects are funded by County Government of kitui under able leadership of Governor Dr. julius Malombe.
The sand dam at Mwitasyano is expected to serve hundreds of households in the area and contribute significantly to the region’s environmental conservation efforts.
