Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza Impeached for Third Time

By our Reporter.

Meru County Governor Kawira Mwangaza has been impeached for the third time, following charges of abuse of office, gross misconduct, and gross violation of the Constitution and other laws. The impeachment motion, brought forward by Deputy Majority Party Leader Zipporah Kinya, saw 49 out of 66 members of the county assembly voting in favor, surpassing the required two-thirds majority.

The vote concluded with 17 members opposing the motion, while three abstained from voting. This development marks another significant chapter in the political challenges facing Governor Mwangaza’s administration.

The impeachment motion cited several allegations, including misuse of power and violations of constitutional provisions, which have been at the center of controversy surrounding her tenure. The county assembly’s decision now awaits further procedures as the case moves to the Senate for a final determination on the governor’s fate.

Governor Mwangaza has yet to issue a public statement in response to the latest impeachment proceedings. Her administration’s future now hinges on the upcoming Senate review, where the implications of these charges will be thoroughly examined.
