KITUI SOUTH – Landowners affected by the construction of the Kibwezi-Kitui Road are finally set to receive long-awaited compensation, following the government’s allocation of Sh1.5 billion towards the process.
Kitui South MP Dr. Rachael Kaki Nyamai broke the news during a recent parliamentary session, expressing her gratitude to all who have championed the cause over the years.
“Some great news for Kibwezi–Kitui Road. Thank you Parliament and all involved. Be blessed,” Dr. Nyamai shared on her social media platforms.
Speaking exclusively with the TCD digital Media, The legislator praised President William Ruto for honoring the government’s promise to compensate those whose lands were taken for the vital road project, a key infrastructure artery in the reregion.
She extended appreciation to Parliament and specifically the Departmental Committee on Lands, chaired by Hon. Joash Nyamoko, for their persistence in pushing the matter on the floor of the House.
“This was promised and promised… now, family, we have seen the Sh1.5 billion and we are optimistic about the rest of the funds being handled,” she stated, affirming the community’s relief and optimism.
Dr. Nyamai also acknowledged the efforts of a delegation of leaders who recently engaged the President directly on the matter, noting that the issue of compensation was among the key commitments made during their recent discussions.
The compensation marks a major milestone for residents of Kitui South and surrounding areas, bringing closure to a matter that has lingered for years and offering new hope to the affected families.
