Kitui South Member of Parliament, Dr. Rachel Kaki Nyamai, on Thursday hosted His Excellency Prof. Kithure Kindiki, the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, in a high-profile economic empowerment tour that saw thousands of residents benefit from key development pledges and direct support initiatives.
Accompanied by a delegation of Members of Parliament and senior government officials, the Deputy President’s visit marked a significant milestone in the region’s quest for enhanced service delivery and economic growth.
During the tour, Dr. Nyamai formally requested the creation of Maluma Division, a new administrative unit intended to improve governance and public service access. In a swift and decisive response, Deputy President Kindiki assured residents that the division would be established without delay. He announced that the new Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) assigned to Maluma would report to work on Monday, signalling immediate implementation.
“The people of Kitui South deserve efficient administration and faster service delivery. The establishment of Maluma Division is part of this government’s commitment to bring services closer to the people,” said Prof. Kindiki, receiving applause from the local community.
The empowerment program also saw over 150 women and youth groups, along with more than 600 Mama Mbogas (market traders) and members of the local business community, benefit from targeted support initiatives aimed at boosting local enterprise and livelihoods.
Dr. Nyamai expressed gratitude to the Deputy President and the national government for prioritizing Kitui South, noting that the support will uplift thousands of families and spur economic activity in the region.
The government reaffirmed its broader commitment to the development of Kitui County and the entire Ukambani region, promising continued investment in infrastructure, education, agriculture, and trade to unlock the region’s full potential.
Residents lauded the tour as a turning point, expressing hope that the promises made would translate into long-term development and inclusive growth for Kitui South.
