Political analyst Prof. Mutahi Ngunyi has sparked debate with his latest assertion that President William Ruto could be defeated in the next election—regardless of whether veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga is in the race or not.
Ngunyi, known for his bold political predictions, argues that the opposition’s strength lies not in a single figure but in the collective force of those who have long opposed the Kenya Kwanza administration. According to him, if Raila abandons the allies who have stood by him in past struggles, he risks rendering himself politically irrelevant.
“Raila’s legacy is built on resilience and mass mobilization, but that legacy means nothing if he turns his back on the forces that propelled him this far,” Ngunyi opined.
Observers believe that if the opposition remains united, it could mount a formidable challenge against Ruto’s re-election bid. However, internal fractures or a miscalculated move by Raila could hand Ruto an easy victory.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, all eyes are on Raila Odinga—will he strengthen the opposition’s unity, or will he risk sidelining himself from the game? With the next election cycle fast approaching, his decision could shape the country’s political future.
