Mwingi Central Political Tide Turns as CPA John Makau Threatens to End Mulyungi’s Reign

The political temperature in Mwingi Central is rising fast as CPA John Makau emerges as a formidable challenger to incumbent MP Dr. Gideon Mulyungi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Recent opinion polls paint a grim picture for Hon. Mulyungi, who now finds himself under mounting pressure from a reinvigorated electorate rallying behind Makau. The Wiper Party-aligned accountant has struck a chord with various voter blocs including Boda Boda riders, traders, Mama Mbogas, and professionals — all of whom are voicing frustration with what they call “years of stagnation and isolation” under the current leadership.

Makau’s hands-on approach and grassroots mobilization have drawn sharp contrast to Mulyungi’s increasingly strained relationship with both voters and fellow elected leaders in Kitui County.

“The people are tired of arrogance and empty rhetoric. Makau represents a fresh start — one of unity, humility, and development,” said a resident in Waita.

Critics accuse Mulyungi of sidelining collaborative efforts in the constituency, a move they say has hindered progress. As Makau continues to consolidate support, political observers believe the incumbent is facing an uphill battle to retain his seat.

With just two years to the polls, the battle lines in Mwingi Central are clearly drawn — and CPA John Makau appears to be gaining ground fast.
