Ngilu Backs Kalonzo, Gachagua, Calls for United Opposition to Face Ruto in 2027

Former Kitui Governor Charity Kaluki Ngilu has called on opposition leaders to unite behind a single presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections, urging them to set aside personal ambitions for the greater good of the country.

Speaking during a public event in Kisasi, Kitui Rural, Ngilu threw her support behind Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, and former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, among other opposition figures. She emphasized the importance of unity within the opposition, warning that a divided front would only strengthen President William Ruto’s re-election bid.

“I have never believed in the Kenya Kwanza government. My prayer to them is that they don’t split,” said Ngilu. “I’m praying for them to front one presidential candidate against President William Ruto in 2027 so that they can do the right thing for Kenyans.”

Ngilu’s remarks come at a time when speculation is rife about potential realignments within the opposition ahead of the next elections. Her endorsement of key opposition leaders signals her active re-entry into national politics.

The former governor also confirmed that she will be seeking to reclaim the Kitui gubernatorial seat in 2027, a position she previously held from 2017 to 2022.

Ngilu’s announcement is expected to shake up the Kitui political landscape, setting the stage for a competitive gubernatorial race.
