Former Kitui Governor Hon. Charity Ngilu has officially declared her intention to contest the Kitui gubernatorial seat in the 2027 general election. Speaking during a public event, Ngilu said she is ready to return and complete what she started during her previous term.
Her declaration now sets the stage for a tough political battle with incumbent Governor Julius Malombe, who has also expressed interest in defending his seat. Malombe, who took over from Ngilu in 2022, has been critical of her administration, accusing it of mismanagement, while promising to continue his development agenda.
The 2027 Kitui governor’s race is shaping up to be a high-stakes contest between two seasoned political rivals.
