Principal Secretary for livestock development Jonathan Mueke, has affirmed the government’s commitment to grassroots transformation through the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), citing key development projects currently being rolled out in Kitui County.
Speaking in Zombe, Kitui East, during a Women and Youth Empowerment Program attended by Deputy President H.E. Kithure kindiki and other national and local leaders, PS Mueke outlined several initiatives aimed at uplifting livelihoods and spurring economic growth in the region.
Among the major highlights, PS Mueke announced that over 18,000 households in Kitui County are being connected to electricity, a move expected to boost local enterprises, improve education outcomes, and enhance quality of life.
He also confirmed that the long-awaited Zombe–Kyuluni Road construction is set to commence soon, marking a significant milestone in the county’s infrastructure development. Additionally, the government has allocated KSh 800 million for compensation of residents affected by the Kibwezi–Mutomo–Kitui Road expansion, paving the way for smoother transport and increased investment in the area.
“These investments are a clear demonstration of the government’s resolve to bring real, lasting change to the people of Kitui. Through the Bottom-Up approach, we are ensuring that no one is left behind,” said PS Mueke.
The event also included the distribution of resources to women and youth groups, part of a broader empowerment initiative aimed at fostering entrepreneurship, financial independence, and social inclusion.
Local leaders and residents welcomed the government’s efforts, noting that the projects would have far-reaching economic and social impacts across the county.
